Building Better Solutions for Survivors
-
Cervu’s cofounders, Abigail Scheer and Dr. Alan Rosenbaum, met in graduate school at North Carolina State University. There they discovered that their respective skill sets were complementary, allowing them to connect with end users to build products that solved big problems.
As a practicing OB-GYN, Alan has seen firsthand the challenges that cancer survivors face. He understands how common poor sexual health is among survivors, and how uncommon it is for them to find solutions for this problem.
Abby’s experience in industrial design showed her how the existing pelvic care tools on the market failed to meet the unique needs of female cancer survivors. She understood how design flaws and ergonomic deficits made these products ineffective.
Together, they knew they could create something better.
-
In 2022, Alan and Abby founded Cervu Health with a goal of building a better solution for survivors. To inform their work, they conducted extensive background research, including user interviews with survivors and clinicians and in-depth market analysis.
The founders have since received approximately $500,000 in non-dilutive funding to develop the Cervu system and build the business.
-
In 2023, the National Institutes of Health awarded Cervu a Phase I Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant, enabling the company to launch a research project to build and user-test a prototype of the Cervu tool.
Dr. Caitlyn Tivy joined the Cervu team in 2024 as principal investigator on this SBIR grant. As a practicing pelvic health physical therapist and a consultant to women’s health companies, she is motivated to create a system that serves survivors better.
